Our Services

What do we do?

  • We work with children and adults to help them overcome their barriers to learning and increase their cognitive capabilities.

We do this by identifying their physiological problems and developing physical and mental exercise programmes to overcome them.

We prefer to solve underlying problems rather than to provide coping strategies.

  • We also work with schools and other institutions, helping them to understand the relationship between physical fitness and learning, and running programmes with them to improve fitness and educational outcomes for their students.

Our aim is to ensure that the organisations we work with are eventually capable of identifying and solving problems themselves.

We seek to empower organisations rather than to make them dependent on us.

How do we help individuals?

We offer a range of services and programmes for children and adults, including:

  • Personalised programmes with regular sessions to help individuals address developmental issues and take control of the full range of their cognitive skills.
  • Screening to identify the causes of learning or behavioural problems.
    • Tomatis® listening therapy (www.tomatis.com ) to develop auditory skills. This is particularly appropriate for the following:
      • addressing delays in developing language, especially with autistic children
      • improving poor speech
      • improving  singing and learning foreign languages
      • addressing problems with processing sounds.

Tomatis® therapy can be either delivered through an intensive Tomatis® programme or a less intensive Forbrain® programme.

An intensive Tomatis therapy programme for a child with language delay might comprise three sessions of 15 days for 2 hours a day, with a break of about a month in between each session.

The Forbrain® (www.forbrain.com) programme uses a separate piece of Tomatis equipment that the client may purchase. (Please contact forbrain@fit-2-learn.com if you wish to purchase this equipment). The client spends around 20 minutes a day, reading aloud or singing, to develop auditory skills.

  • Developing children’s language skills in preparation for secondary education.

Speech is an essential preparation for future success in written communication. By the time children reach year 6 at school they ought to have achieved a grade 5 in Speech and Language skills.

We offer a structured programme to develop children’s language skills and prepare them for success in school and life.

How do we help schools and other institutions?

We offer a range of services to schools and other institutions, including:

  • One day training day for staff to introduce the basics of cognitive development, including:
    • how to spot problems;
    • how to design programmes to minimise developmental problems and secondary emotional damage.
  • Presentations to parents, families and friends to introduce the basics of cognitive development.
  • Screening days with schools:
    • screen up to 20 children per day;
    • individual reports and recommendations for each child;
    • work with staff to identify obvious developmental delays in children;
    • follow up sessions to consider how the delays are impacting on learning and how to address the issues.
  • Long-term staff training to enable them to assess and identify problems and deal with issues around developmental delay:
    • training teaching staff by running programmes with their students in order to improve their fitness for learning;
    • helping schools to understand and implement practices that ensure that every child develops properly;
    • helping schools to develop their own database of child development;
    • developing research projects with schools, including writing applications for funding.
  • Tomatis® therapy to support second language speakers and children with language processing issues.

How do we work with community groups?

We are committed to freely promoting the ideas of good child development to community groups. Currently we offer:

  • Presentations to parents, families and friends to introduce the basics of cognitive development:
    • how to spot problems;
    • how to minimise developmental problems and secondary emotional damage;
    • how to use the same understanding to identify problems with senior citizens and maintain cognitive functions for life.
